SUG FUTO PRESS RELEASE.

THE STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT,  FEDERAL UNIVERSITY  OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI.
29/03/2017.

NOTICE!!!

Greatest Futoites, we bring fundamental  greetings in one Aluta Spirit.  We want to inform you that the University Management  in their foresight, have decided to implement an age long desire of banning the Inaga-Okada (Commercial Motorcyclists ) from  operating on Campus. To the merits of security  of life and properties, this ban will reduce the increasing rate of Theft, Recklessness and other social vices on Campus,  attributed to the existence  of Inaga-Okada(Commercial Motorcycle)  riders.

However, we know that,  this will pose a huge challenge for all of us, to go about our daily  academic activities on Campus, without a convenient means of transportation, other than trekking by foot.  Hence,  the SUG dutifully, demanded that, an alternative means of transportation should be provided for Nigerian students before resumption .  And, at a very affordable rate too.

More so, we insisted that,  the opinion of every FUTOITE as always,  must be represented in this new development. Hence, we ask that you suggest how much you think should be the ideal price for the Intra-school shuttle service in the following areas:

1: For short distances around  Campus?

2: For longer distances around Campus. Specifically,  either from  Main Gate Terminal (Main Gate, Diamond  Bank and Senate Building)  to Back Gate Terminal ( FISO,  NDDC Hostel) or  Eziobodo Terminal (Students Affairs Unit Building, Estate and Works Building) vise-versa?

Quickly send in your suggestions, to enable the SUG arrive at an amicable  consensus with management and the shuttle service company based on opinion sampling from FUTO students.

Importantly, the SUG President directed that, the price, will be a collective decision of FUTO students and, each shuttle will spend a maximum  of 5 to 10 minutes waiting time at each Terminal. Whether fully loaded or not,  will depart, in order to pickup students'/passengers  who may be stranded along the road  side.

More so,  the DOTSUG- Comr. John Joshua and FUTO Bus Manager,  are working out a map, so as to provide feasible routes for the  shuttles to ply.

We are optimistic  that, this new transportation scheme will enhance the cooperate image of our university and bring us ease of transportation.  Equally, we appreciate our amiable Vice Chancellor for facilitating  the provision of the intra-school shuttle service and unwavering commitment  in solving the problems we face on Campus.

We know that,  there may be some initial hitches here and there , as it is with most new policies, but, with our collective understanding and contributions, every little challenge will be identified and solved immediately. NB: If you need to make any report  about the shuttle drivers  or state of shuttle,  call the nos.  pasted on the shuttles.

Don't forget, that, the Aluta Excellence Administration has never relented in our collective efforts  to bring you the best. Your welfare remains our utmost concern and we will not let you down. So far,  we have successfully achieved - No more illegal collection of Course Registration, No additional N10,000 for late payment of school fees, No more over bill of  Departmental Dues, it's N2,000 only,  No More Compulsory  purchase of Lab Coats and Textbooks, Provision of more water Reservoirs and Taps at School Hostels, Maintenance,  Replacement  and Repairs of Carpentry, Plumbing and Electrical  works ongoing at School Hostel, Encouragement  of Entrepreneurship and Human Capacity Development among our Students.

Ultimately, it's one step at a time and surely, every other complaint will be thoroughly and decisively addressed, such as: Irregularity  of school fees invoice,  Completion of Installation of NgREN-Wifi platform on Campus and  Smart Boards in Lecture Halls, Provision of chip  enabled School ID Card, Installation  and Repair of Street Lights,  Landscaping of School Hostel environment,  Provision of more facilities  and equipments  in Laboratories, Completion of Stadium and Rehabilitation of Sports facilities,  Renovation of School Hostel etc.
